TV Guide touts Thrones

In the December 13-19 issue of TV Guide, Game of thrones dvd gets a very brief mention in its “Sneak Peek” section (page 12) by TV insider Kate Hahn:

TV GUIDE MAGAZINE visited Northern Ireland for a sneak peek at Game of Thrones, the new HBO drama (based on the bestselling novels of George R. R. Martin), premiering this April. “It’s an epic fantasy in the tradition of Tolkien, but with more sex, violence and treachery,” Martin says. The Lord of the Rings fans will find a familiar face in Sean Bean, who plays Eddard “Ned” Stark, patriarch of one of the families vying for influence in the kingdom of Westeros, which is ruled unsteadily by Robert Baratheon (Mark Addy). The House of Stark’s adversaries include Robert’s queen, Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey), her incestuous brother, Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and exiled princess Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke). But in this land of decade-long winters, another threat looms: Beyond “The Wall,” a towering barricade in the far north, lurks a cold-loving supernatural menace. As Martin says, “No one is safe.”

One photo is shown: a different angle of the Bran-with-a-bow picture, with Jon and Robb flanking him to either side. The photo caption reads: “I think you’re going to get a Team Edward / Team Jacob reaction,” Martin says of Jon Snow (Kit Harington, left) and Robb Stark (Richard Madden, right), with Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead-Wright)

The December 13-19 issues of TV Guide is available on newsstands now, and features the Winchester boys from Supernatural on the cover.

Fire And Blood: Good to know the buzz is making its rounds. TV Guide is owned by News Corp, which is (mostly) unaffiliated with Time Warner (Entertainment Weekly / HBO’s parent company). Additionally, the December 6 “Ask Matt” page on TVGuide.com features a reader’s GoT question fielded by Thrones-friendly critic Matt Roush, who is a fan of the books.

Will the show actually spawn Team Jon / Team Robb teen frenzies? I doubt it, as most “Team XX” rivalries usually start with some sort of actual rivalry. But Team Stark / Team Lannister? I’d make that bet.

UPDATE: According to our very own Two Feathers, not only is Rickon in the picture (that’s him sitting on the fence behind Robb), Game of Thrones box set
but Two Feathers himself is also standing behind Bran. Our extras are omnipresent!
