Undoubtedly, parenting through the teen years may be a test of your patience and could be a very stressful time. It can seem that all of your accumulated parenting skills and knowledge are put to the test as if it some kind of final exam. These years are when your child is learning to become their own person.

These years are so critical. While your teen is trying to separate themselves from their parents they also must decide what they want to do with the rest of their lives. Of course your child should have a lot of say about what they do or choose. Help your teen make informed decisions. Offer him or her support and advise as needed..

Just about anyone who reads the news or watches it on TV are familiar with bullying at school. This is such a serious problem and can actually lead to mortal consequences in a variety of ways. There are, of course, two parts to this; the child who’s the bully and the child being bullied. If your child is the one being bullied you should take quick action to stop it. The reason for it being so important is that from it your child can suffer psychologically, like all children would. Bullying in school is one of the more serious issues confronting students along with all the other difficulties. Young children starting school for the first time often present special parenting challenges. School can be a trying time for young children, especially if they do not know how to make friends. The largest problem the first few days is the fact that they do not like to be left alone without their parents. This is where you may want to speak with the school and teachers, especially, in addition to being proactive in your response. Parents need to sit down with their kids and tell them what is going to happen on the first day of school before it actually occurs. Helping to make the child become aware of what will be soon happening can help to minimize the effects of their anxieties.

Many teens choose to go into the armed forces and serve their country after graduating high school. In the past, it was mostly males who signed up. But that is no longer the case as many young women enter the military, as well. While joining the military is a decision many recent high school graduates make, going to college is the more popular of the two.

Making the decision to enlist in the armed forces may be a stressful time for your teenager. Words of encouragement are what your child needs now. Young people who enlist in the military will feel good about their decision. Teens who sign up for the military are often emotionally prepared for leaving home when its time. Still, they will feel much more confident when they know you are with them and supporting them. There’s nothing quite like all of the challenges parents face with their children. It’s perfectly normal for parents to feel incompetent when dealing with new situations. For this reason it is a good idea to have a good number of friends who are themselves parents. Parents can offer other parents helpful tips and advice if they are struggling with something. It’s also totally understandable to do a bit of venting every once in a while.
