Rumor: HBO looking at Iceland and Morocco for season two
Yet more rumors about season two. This time we are hearing that HBO is already looking at some alternate locations for filming the next season of Game of thrones dvd. Obviously the bulk of the filming will continue in Northern Ireland. But it sounds like they are planning to do some filming in Iceland and Morocco for season two. Iceland would obviously be an ideal place to shoot much of what happens in the far North, while Morocco would seem to be a good stand-in for Dany’s journey. No word on whether they plan to return to Malta or not.
Winter Is Coming: Despite this being just an unconfirmed rumor at this point, both of these locations make a lot of sense. They have filmed in Morocco before, for the original pilot, so obviously there is some familiarity with the location. And Iceland is relatively close to Northern Ireland, has been used in many major films before, and also offers a 20% government reimbursement.
Now this is classic. Danish tabloid newspaper Ekstra Bladet has an article on their website about Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Jaime and in particular the fans’ reaction to our first look at the Kingslayer (Google translation here). They mention the original nose complaints but remark that the fans have changed their mind on Coster-Waldau after seeing the recent photos. Just for good measure, they include a bunch of quotes from the fans, all of them lifted from this very site!
Winter Is Coming: As the old saying goes, you know you’ve made it as a website when your commenters are getting quoted in the Danish tabloids.
But for those who want to know… Personally, I think I am a 3. The rules are, for me, “Tell the story we know, make it visually believable… and oh, yeah, try not to change too many names.” I’m one of those rogues always campaigning against bad wigs. (Like you couldn’t just hire blondes? Come on, people! Eyebrows!) And seeing as I’d never before seen a “silver” wig done realistically (Betty White doesn’t count), I was ready and willing to skip the traditional Targaryen hair altogether. Paint it black, quoth the ‘Stones! I campaigned for it, early and often.
We still got the wigs.
And all in all, that’s just one small blip on the radar. (Emilia Clarke is going to nail this role.) One or two questionable looks doesn’t ruin a show for me. I am not-so uniquely qualified to recognize the huge pile of awesome that looms so high above everything else. The rest of it looks so damned real!
For me—that’s it. Believability. Make it real, Game of Thrones box set
and I will be there, front and center, each week, popcorn at the ready.
