Halloween Costumes
The scary lion, the evil witch, and the spooky wardrobe, these three Halloween costumes can be tweaked to make any kind of scary costume. Almost any costume can be tweaked to make Halloween costumes, a bit of fake blood and some scary looking make-up can go a long way. These days the classics such as skeletons, witches and warlocks, ghosts and monsters are readily available from Spirit Halloween shops but in order to really impress your peers and the occasional judge at a local contest you need to think outside the box and not rely on the classics. My brother once dressed up as the predator from the well known ‘rumble in the jungle’ Arnold Schwarzenegger movie. The next Halloween costume he is planning will be a re-make of an Alien costume form the movie of that name, Alien.
Hollywood and Halloween Costumes
Indeed Hollywood can be a great inspiration for Halloween costumes with movies and series as varied as The Munster’s and Scary Movie to Nightmare on Elm Street and Scream. However, if you cannot buy the required costume from a Spirit Halloween shop or off the internet then Halloween costumes can take many hours to construct. The end result is always way more impressive and usually cheaper than manufactured equivalents. Obviously ghosts are at the top of the list for easiest to make, but make sure that the white sheet you use is taken with permission otherwise the owner may not be too impressed with the eye mascara and fake blood that it comes back covered in and the two holes cut out for the ghost’s eyes!
Practical Halloween Costumes
Going back to Hollywood; evil wizards, zombies, and pirates are popular with the release of the Pirates of the Caribbean and Harry Potter. These types of costumes are ideal and great fun. They allow wearers to put on lots of makeup and wear some fantastic outfits and props. If money is tight then a wear a red and gold shirt, some circular glasses, a Gryffindor scarf, and a stick that looks like a wand, or just make the stick into a wand. Either way these outfits are practical too as the wearer can wear as many layers as the local weather conditions dictate. These Halloween costumes allows the wearer to utilize pocket space to store valuables securely and is able to go to the bathroom and drink with relative ease, compared to other types of Halloween costumes.
The best thing about pirate costumes, Halloween costumes, and wizard costumes, such as harry potter; are that they are multi-party Halloween costumes and can be worn to many different parties over the year. Another thing to remember when choosing your Halloween costumes is clearance! If you went as a spooky wardrobe, for example, then you have to make sure that where you are having the party is not going to be a crowded event otherwise you might get changed into a poster of a wardrobe by an angry witch! Pumpkins are a very easy way to make a scary costume and the most effective version I saw was combined with a flashing red light in the mouth, a black suit and a shiny black and gold cape. Beware though pumpkins are heavy when worn as head wear and wet inside, but you can at least chop it up the next day, add a pinch of coriander powder, a couple of chopped onions and some chicken stock and make a delicious Halloween soup. Halloween costumes are a great project to do with the whole family especially carving pumpkins.
